Communications inspired by the passion of “Makers”

Because microcontrollers are largely considered to be fungible commodities we shifted Atmel’s focus from specs to what “Makers” are really passionate about– the amazing things that Atmel products power. Atmel products are integral parts of an expansive ecosystem of future-edge technologies creating natural associations and compelling brand partnerships. Tying the brand to this larger community creates an outward facing vision that challenges Atmel to proactively collaborate and interact with both customers and partners in ways that bring depth and unexpected influences not only to communications but also to product development.

We designed a home page that would allow for the focused and dramatic presentation of how Atmel is helping to shape the products that capture our imaginations. Deeper within the site we infused each page with targeted, contextually relevant social activity that serve to frame Atmel products within the larger world of technology and connect users to social messages that support consumer activities.

To extend this message we also designed “Atmel Makers”– a mobile app scavenger hunt for the Maker’s Fair. A user is tasked with finding as many fair participants who utilize Atmel products as possible. Technology includes GPS tracking, video and augmented reality that enable users to identify, tag and track their progress. Winners receive prizes including trips to future Maker Faires.
